S.N. Malik was the chairman and managing director of MMTC Ltd.
(1992-97) and PEC Ltd. (1989-93). He led their transformation from
government monopolies to highly competitive global companies
after they lost their monopoly and much of their business following
trade liberalisation in 1991. He was also the chairman of MMTC
Transnational Pte. Ltd., Singapore, and director of Neelachal Ispat
Nigam Ltd, a 1-million-ton capacity pig iron/steel plant, which he
helped promote.
S.N. Malik has served on the boards of many other large
companies, including State Trading Corporation of India, National
Aluminium Company, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, and National
Mineral Development Corporation. He has also served as the advisor
to the CEOs of the Indian subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation of
Japan, a Fortune 500 company, DCM Shriram Industries, Management
consultancy division of AF Ferguson & Co. and iBilt Technologies, a
Thapar Group company. He has worked for many years in the Indian
private and public sector, including multinational companies.
Currently he is the Life Trustee of R.N. Malhotra and Anna R.
Malhotra Charitable Trust.
S.N. Malik has authored three well-received books, Turnaround-A
Public Sector Story, Om Books International, 2010, Mantras of Success,
Konark Publishers, 2015, and Outside-In Management, Fingerprint, 2017.
He is also one of the co-authors, along with a few senior diplomats, of
Economic Diplomacy, a book edited by Ambassador Kishan Rana.
