Dumas was a prolific writer who penned numerous essays, short stories, serialized novels, and plays. His literary career began after he started working for Louis Philippe, the Duke of Orléans. He made his own literary debut at the stage at Comédie-Française with plays like Henry III and His Court (1829), Byronic Antony (1831), The Tower of Nesle (1832), and Kean (1836).
